Spain - Broadband Market - Overview, Statistics & Forecasts
Synopsis Spain's broadband penetration is on a par with the EU average, though subscribers have continued to contend with relatively high access prices and slow data speeds. The incumbent Telefónica has launched 30Mb/s services, while some cablecos provide 100Mb/s. Prompted by the EC, the regulator in April 2009 reversed its decision to protect Telefónica's fibre network from competitor access, originally intended to safeguard the company's investments. Access through Local Loop Unbundling is gaining pace, encouraging competition and lower prices in most regions. In this report we profile Spain's fixed and wireless broadband markets in 2010, together with developments in related technologies such as fibre, and broadband powerline. We also provide forecasts for broadband take-up to 2019.

Spain - Convergence - Triple Play & Digital TV
Synopsis Spain's triple play market has grown alongside considerable investment in faster IP networks, largely based on ADSL2+ but including VDSL and some minor fibre launches. Cable operators are currently at the forefront of the convergence markets, having launched 100Mb/s services to provide multiple-channel IPTV as well as VoD, but other operators, based on wholesale access to Telefónica's fibre network, will gain market share in coming years as fibre networks are extended to most of the country. Satellite TV has seen considerable changes in recent years following the merger of Telefónica's Via Digital with Canal Satélite Digital. Digital Terrestrial TV, re-launched in late 2005, has shown considerable progress, reaching more than half of the population by mid-2009 ahead of analogue switch-off in April 2010. This report provides an overview of developments in bundled and VoIP services in 2010, and also analyses the digital and satellite TV markets.

Spain - Key Statistics, Telecom Market & Regulatory Overviews
Synopsis Spain's telecom market was worth €42.8 billion in 2008, a 3% fall year-on-year. Mobile penetration is high and growing steadily, particularly in the 3G sector, while broadband take-up is backed by considerable investment in infrastructure in a bid to address the relatively slow data speeds available. Cable operators have launched 100Mb/s services, while Telefónica in October launched a 30Mb/s service based on a hybrid fibre/ADSL2+ network. These upgrades are required to stimulate the market for triple play, Video-on-Demand and other IP-delivered offers. The regulator has fostered competition by providing access to the incumbent's DSL networks through LLU, as well as to its fibre networks through regulating access to ducts and infrastructure. This report introduces the key aspects of the Spanish telecom market in 2010, providing statistics on the fixed network services sector, and profiling the main players and their strategies to meet an increasingly competitive environment. The report also assesses the main regulatory issues, noting the status of interconnection, local loop unbundling, number portability and carrier preselection.

Spain - Mobile Market - Overview, Statistics & Forecasts
Synopsis Spain has one of the largest mobile markets in Europe, supported by a large population ready to accept new technologies. Competition between the four network operators has driven down the cost of calls by more than a quarter since 2005. About a dozen MVNOs have been launched, further intensifying price competition. The 3G market has also seen great changes, including the launch of services from Yoigo and the release of 900MHz frequencies for 3G services. This report provides statistics and research on the Spanish mobile market in 2010, including an assessment of regulatory issues, a profile of the major providers, and an analysis of mobile data services such as SMS, MMS, i-mode, HSDPA and mobile TV. Selected market mobile forecasts through until 2015 are analysed.
